Moving Day Expenses

One of your biggest jobs on moving day is getting your possessions from your old property to your new one. Surprisingly, many people misjudge the time and costs involved in doing that. Proper planning and budgeting are essential to ensuring moving day goes as smooth as possible.

The basic three options when moving are:

  1. Hire a moving company to handle everything, and I mean everything.
  2. Hire a moving truck and team, while doing some of the work yourself. (You can pack your own belongings and or help with loading.)
  3. Do it all yourself by renting a moving vehicle and getting friends and family to help.

If you select the first option, get quotes early in the buying/selling process. Services offered, price and quality vary from company to company.

If you’re going to do some or even the entire move yourself, start by making a list of what you’ll need. In addition to renting a vehicle or vehicle and crew, there are many supplies you may need. Think about how many boxes you might need, protective filling and/or wrapping, packing tape, markers or labels etc.

You may decide to call on friends or family to help with your move. Be sure you have enough people confirmed to do the job within a reasonable time frame.
