Tips for Fixing Stains and Cracks in Flooring.

As you prepare to sell your home you may notice some stains or cracks in your flooring. Luckily there are some DIY solutions that can help improve the look of your floors before the “For Sale” sign goes up.

For homes with carpet, there are many different spot cleaning products available on the market. However before you purchase one of those, try sprinkling a small amount of baking soda on the stain along with a few drops of white vinegar. Wait a few minutes, carefully dab with a towel and use a vacuum to remove any residue. With hardwood floors, gently rubbing the spot with warm water will remove most stains. Just remember to fully dry the area after to avoid damaging the wood. Discolored grout is common when it comes to ceramic tiles. Typically there are products and even companies that will clean unsightly grout. If you are up to the task, an old toothbrush and water followed by mopping usually does the trick.

Unfortunately if you have damage to an area of tile or hardwood such chips or cracks, the best solution is replacement. Unless you have successfully done it yourself before, consider hiring a contractor for the most professional outcome. Sometimes if the crack is small enough, a sealant can be used instead of replacement. This can camouflage the crack and prevent it from getting worse over time.
